5 dozen 2" cookies

1 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon

In a large mixing bowl, mix together thoroughly shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Stir into shortening mixture the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Chill dough.

Preheat oven to 400°F.

In a small bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon. Roll chilled dough into balls the size of small walnuts. Roll in sugar/cinnamon mixture. Please 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned but still soft. These cookies puff up at first then flatten out with crinkled tops.

Remove from oven and cool on baking sheets for 1 minute. Remove from cookie sheet and place on wire rack until cool.
