Chocolate Sugar Cookies


1/4 cup butter or margarine, room temperature
2 large egg whites
1 tablespoon water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
granulated sugar


Preheat oven to 350°F. Using Pan Release, lightly grease baking sheets.

In a medium mixing bowl, beat egg whites, butter, water and vanilla. In another bowl combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add egg mixture to flour mixture and stir until well blended.

Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll balls in sugar. Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Press balls with a flat surface, such as the bottom of a drinking glass.

Bake until lightly browned, 6 to 8 minutes. Remove from oven and cool on baking sheets for 1 minute. Remove from cookie sheet and place on wire rack until cool.
